What I'm Reading
A locked room mystery set on a snowbound train
6:40 to Montreal by Eva Jurczyk
A locked room mystery, featuring a mysterious death on a stalled train during a snowstorm. It’s not a new set up, but Jurczyk writes a compelling thriller with it nonetheless.
Agatha (in a nod to the queen of locked room mysteries) is a bestselling novelist whose life is crumbling around her after a serious diagnosis. Her husband, Teddy, gives her a mini writing retreat aboard the train to Montreal. What is meant to be a one-day trip, full of quiet time to write, turns into a day-long attempt to survive, trapped with a murderer.
Agatha, the protagonist, is a complicated and messy heroine, but so compelling, nonetheless. And the twist at the end was stunning. I did not see it coming at all.
