What I'm Reading: THE WOMEN IN WHITE by Sarah Pekkanen

A deeply disturbing psychological thriller that dives into the government's interest in the paranormal

Sarah Pekkanen has a way with chilling plots. In this deeply disturbing psychological suspense, Riley accepts a caretaker job with an isolated elderly woman named Betty, whose main wish is to find her three close friends, women she hasn’t been in contact with for more than 50 years. As Riley does some research for Betty, whose home has been frozen in the 1960s, she begins to suspect something sinister was happening with Betty and her friends.

Told in a dual timeline, we learn Betty’s story of psychological and paranormal testing, as well. She and her friends are strong and interesting women, who I couldn’t help but love.

Pekkanen is a master at a perfectly-paced plot. I found myself frequently late for things, trying to fit in just one more chapter. I enjoyed all of the main characters and loved the ending’s satisfying twist.
