What I'm Reading
Finlay's Zany Adventures, A Mysterious Mummy and more
Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave
By Elle Cosimano
Everyone’s favorite accidental hit-woman, Finlay Donovan is back! The latest installment of this suburban single mom’s crazy life with her unconventional nanny (and partner in crime), Vero, who’s got her own secrets, is just as action-packed and zany as the previous installments. When a body turns up in Finlay’s nosy neighbor’s rose garden, the police presence starts making Finlay antsy about what they might find out about her own nefarious activities. But the real surprise happens when the investigation narrows to focus on her ex-husband, Steven, potentially unearthing inconvenient questions about an investigation that had already closed.
With Finlay’s neighbor, Mrs. Haggerty, now living at Finlay’s house, Finlay’s son in the thick of potty training, her agent trying to work yet another outlandish deal, and Finlay’s relationship with the handsome detective, Nick, moving toward a potentially devastating turning point, Finlay has a lot to juggle while she tries to find the real killer and clear Steven’s name, as well as ensure no one looks too closely at previous murder cases.

The Museum Detective
By Maha Khan Phillips
When a mummy is found during a shootout with local drug dealers, museum Egyptologist Dr. Gul Delani is called to the grisly scene. As Gul battles with forces within the police department and within her own museum over possession of this intriguing mummy, questions about its authenticity arise. And the web around the mummy begins to encircle Gul’s life, putting her in danger. Unsure who she can trust, Gul also struggles with her own personal trauma, the disappearance of her beloved niece, which already had brought her near mental collapse. Desperate to find answers both about the mummy and about her niece, Gul begins investigating on her own, despite warnings to stop.
Khan Phillips has written a heart-stopping, richly detailed thriller, featuring a strong female protagonist with secrets of her own. I sincerely hope this is the beginning of a series featuring Dr. Gul Delani.

Dead Post Society
By Diane Kelly
An elite prep school outside of Nashville, long closed and fallen into disrepair, a potential murder/suicide, and a plan to redevelop it all as an upscale retirement community. Whitney Whitaker and her cousin Buck are hard at work on this challenging project, but Whitney can’t seem to let go of her questions about the tragic event that led to the school’s hasty abandonment. As Whitney begins her own investigation, she finds herself in increasing danger.
Kelly has brought back all of the characters in Whitney’s life, including her beloved cat, Sawdust, and her supportive husband Collin, a police detective, in this seventh installment of the House Flipper mystery series. While it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. But beware, things are moving in Whitney’s personal life and you just may find yourself anxiously awaiting the next installment like I am.
