Summer Reading Recs 3
A domestic thriller set at a creepy lake and the return of a smart talking PI.
The Lake Escape by Jamie Day
Three childhood friends, a lake with a tragic history and a nanny with bogus references. This is the set up for the lake escape, a beautifully-written, pulse-pounding thriller by Jamie Day.
There are lots of characters in this twisty tale, and yet Day manages to keep them all so well-developed that keeping them straight is easy. And there are just as many secrets, which come together in a shocking and very satisfying conclusion.
Because of the lake setting, it’s a great beach read, but, honestly, wherever you read it, you’ll lose yourself in the story. Highly recommend!
Death of an Ex by Delia Pitts
Vandie Myrick, a private investigator with a messy life and a penchant for silent snark and plain speech out loud, finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation when her ex-husband gets shot in her Queenstown office parking lot—after a misguided one night stand with him.
Vandy jumps at the chance to assist the police, not only to find Phil’s murderer, but also to clear her name and get to know her dead daughter’s half brother. But as she digs into Phil’s life, she realizes everyone seems to be a suspect.
Full of twists and Vandy’s world-wise observations, Pitts has written another smash hit of a detective novel.
Beach, plane, train or department of motor vehicles line, you won’t care where you read this. You won’t want to put it down!
Both books are out today.
